Montana Ranch Brand™ is committed to leading a long term program to improve the performance potential of the Piedmontese cattle.
The goals of PIEDMONTESE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM™ are as follows.
- Enlist Breeders in collecting performance data on their cattle.
- Build a comprehensive Piedmontese EPD database
- Accurately characterize genetic merit of Piedmontese sires.
- Use this database in developing selection criteria to improve:
- Calving weights & ease
- Milk production and udder development
- Average weaning weights
- Growth & feed conversion
- Carcass value
This program is open for all performance concerned producers who are committed to improving the performance quality and marketability of their Piedmontese cattle. We are interested in tracking data from both seedstock Piedmontese cattle and from ½ blood Piedmontese feeder calves.
To implement this program we utilize our PARTNERS IN SUCCESS ALLIANCE™.
This alliance operates with the following objectives:
- Standardize the pre-conditioning protocol of Piedmontese sired feeder calves
- Buildup the pool of pre-qualified Performance Piedmontese Sires for commercial and seedstock production
- Buildup the pool of pre-qualified Performance Piedmontese feeder calves utilizing natural and/or organic protocols
- Enhance the long term economic value for producers willing to make the effort to improve all aspects of Piedmontese cattle
Montana Ranch Brand™ interest in developing these programs stems from the production requirements we foresee necessary to meet the growing demand for Montana Ranch Brand™ Certified Piedmontese Beef.
Recognizing the parallel challenges of developing a vertically coordinated supply of
breed-specific cattle and at the same time create the retail sales accounts to utilize that supply, Montana Ranch Brand™ is striving to build Sales production flexibility while maintaining cattle producer’s stability.
In order to balance the growth challenges of breed specific cattle production and Montana Ranch Brand™ Certified Piedmontese Beef sales, these programs will be designed to create cattle that qualify for any commercial program utilizing Natural and/or Organic production protocols.
To become involved as a producer, we need the following:
- Contact us & join our Alliance
- Identify your Piedmontese sires and dams to be included in the program.
- Enroll your Piedmontese feeder calves with the sires identified
- Collect all calving data [i.e. accurate birth dates, birth weights, calving ease scores] on your Piedmontese-sired calf crop.
- Operate under natural and/or organic production protocols.
- Utilize the designated pre-conditioning protocol; collect weaning weights, and yearling weights.
